Juliette has done several illustrations for our sister publication: The Deli. Now she has a new website for her work.

The source material for this Paris-born, Brooklyn-based artist comes from everywhere: op-art, 2D animation, Japanese woodblock prints, the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. Yet Lê’s ability to abstract them all goes a long way towards capturing both the strangeness and joy of living.

Done mostly in Chinese ink markers and Sharpies, the works are pattern-like, though when things like koi fish appear, they feel alive, despite their obvious unreality. The water they float through is electric and watching them is eerily close to our own lonely existence.
